Greetings! My name is Sasha Watson, and this is my New Years Resolution - to start blogging! A 'budding' journalist, I am a MSc Politics student at the University of Southampton, with a penchant in current affairs and bad jokes. Where better to start then, than to do my worst and predict the future in its finest glory?
First, the AV vote will fail, as people confuse what the referendum is for, thinking it was an election asking if we still agree with Nick, and also because Vince Cable attempts to come true to his word in bringing down the Government, but only succeeds in bringing down another Liberal Democrat flagship policy.
Second, the recession: unemployment levels DROP as graduates realise they need to follow Government advice and undertake a years voluntary placement, in order to gain the work experience in tea-making and file-sorting required to work for Times Top 100 employers like Aldi. Elsewhere, Ed Miliband outlines the Labour party's first policy in opposition. Well predictions are meant to be a bit laughable aren't they?
Closer to my second home, Southampton University announces tuition fees to rise to £9000, following an oligopoly-like agreement amongst all 118 Vice Chancellors to charge the upper limit. Record applications for University this year means 1 in 2 do not make it to University, whilst the Daily Mail reports that going to University gives you cancer.
Europe: following a dismal year for the Euro, Germany decides to take drastic action and to divide the currency into two, via a financial wall, blocking poor countries to affect trade in rich countries; the currencies to be called West Euro and East Euro, respectively.
And finally, Wikileaks release the password to their much-anticipated Insurance file that will supposedly bring down the US Government, only for the file to be a link to Rick Astley's smash-hit "Never Gonna Give You Up".
This blog intends to become more serious, honest, but until then - it is the holidays after all - Happy New Year to you all.
